So, the first still of Ender’s Game was released today.
The top reddit comment was “please be good please be good please be good please be good”, and that pretty much sums it up.
Although, after seeing this picture, I’m a little more scared than I was before. After all of OSC’s misgivings I nearly gave up hope that it would ever be made into a decent film, and I’d rather have no film at all than a terrible one. It seems like his fear of casting an older Ender has come true…
They took a gamble and lost with Asa Butterfield hitting his growth spurt, apparently. There are good child actors out there. It was a mistake to cast a 15 year old as a 6 year old, and I’m afraid that this will ruin the movie. So much of the plot hinges on Ender being 6 or 7, and if he looks 13 it’s just a much less compelling story.
The rest of the casting looks great, so that’s a silver lining. I’m just going to try not to get my hopes up, and maybe I’ll be surprised.
